Tube Amps

Ah, the joys of owning a tube amp!  When it works, it's the best sound in the world - sweet and crunchy and tons of sexy.  AND, I get to learn all about electronics.  It's sitting on the dining room table right now, disassembled, again, as I test tubes and setting, trying to get rid of an annoying snare drum fizz on certain notes, maybe due to the fact that the speakers rattle the tubes until they weep.

It's a love/hate relationship.  Perfect for the kind of music we play.  Two nights ago, at our CD release party, I had it turned up to almost 3!  It behaved well and loudly.  I should probably just stop messing with it, but might as well face it...

I'm addicted to tubes.

We just finished our first official recording session.  We've had a couple of live recording sessions with the Walla Walla Recording Club out at Sapolil Cellars but this was the first time we had 'artistic control' and got to be in a real studio (Coffee Ring).  We chose to record only six carefully selected songs; three songs we wrote and three covers - songs that we felt truly express our sound and our voice and that were well-prepared.  And we chose to record them in a live-session format, just as we would perform them.  When you listen to our cover of Stevie Nicks' Landslide, you'll hear Katie's breath and the sound of Joe's fingers on the guitar strings.  Katie sat facing Joe, guitar and voice melding just as they would if we were sitting on stage at a show.  So, check out the tracks on our album page LICKS.  Click the little flash player below for a bit of Landslide.  We recorded that in one take, a mic on the guitar and a vocal mic.  Katie wanted to do it again, but I refused.  I've never actually performed that song that well, before or since.  But SHHHHHHHHH - don't tell anyone!

A bit of a hiatus this last winter while we worked on lots and lots of new material.  Since last fall we've added the Korg SP250 and the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III blues amp, and we've re-vamped our web site.  Later this month we'll be in the studio recording for the first time, but not the last!  We've got tons of great gigs booked up this summer, including Farmer's Market, the wonderful Relay for Life and a boat show in Anacortes this fall.  Still a few weekends open if you'd like some sexy-eclectic-acoustic-electric live music for your next event.  Call Katie at 509-301-5143.
